Concocting 9/11

Last Sunday, I saw this documentary on the National Geographic Channel entitled, Inside 9/11. It seemed like Osama Bin Laden had been planning the colossal tragedy since the 80’s. He spent years constructing his network and searching for the right, loyal and worthy people who would carry out his devious plans.

Failing at First
Out of all the buildings in New York City, the terrorists chose to attack the Twin Towers since they were the tallest and they symbolized America’s economic fruition. The earlier bombing of the World Trade Center in the 90’s was actually planned to eradicate innumerable civilians. Unfortunately or rather fortunately, it turned out that the terrorists expected too much from the bomb imbedded inside the vehicle parked at the building’s basement so only a relatively minute damage was created. Only the lower part of the construction was affected so they thought of having a monstrous comeback.

Plane Plans
Due to the immensity of the World Trade Center’s structure, terrorist needed to plant a monstrous bomb to destroy the whole structure. It seemed difficult thus the idea of using an airplane as an explosive device ensued. Implanting it would not be difficult and there would be no need of creating a bomb. The only questions that bugged them were how to hijack a plane and who would do it. In this case, the aircraft would be maneuvered to crash into a building thus suicidal pilots were needed. Then started the search for the plot executors – those who would be willing to die for Allah’s triumph.

Vile Vow
According to the documentary, it turned out that one of the masterminds of the 9/11 attack was a Muslim engineering student in USA. His American classmates would usually play a practical joke on him. Being a Muslim, he would tend to pray regularly inside their temple. By doing so, he must leave his footwear outside the door of the mosque. His classmates would then make fun of him by throwing his shoes into the river near the area and this would really piss him off. Being a victim of racism, this heightened his seething anguish for the Americans so he vowed that he would revenge against them.

Educating the Enemy
Some of the willing perpetrators of the 9/11 assault needed to acquire piloting skills in order to commit the havoc. A number of them enrolled in an aviation school in USA. The administrator of the school became suspicious since a lot of Arabs enrolled in their school at the same time. He sent a report to the FBI but it took a long time for the information to reach the upper echelons of the bureau. Before they took notice of the report, the disaster had already been realized.

Isn’t it funny how the prey taught his own predator how to assail him? To catch Part II of this documentary, tune in to the National Geographic Channel tomorrow at 9 p.m. I sure hope that NGC would pay me for advertising their show.
